Molecular and Serological Detection of Coxiella burnetii in Small Ruminants in Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
• Serology indicates that one‐third of the sheep and goats had previously been infected with Coxiella burnetii. • qPCR analysis revealed the ongoing presence of C. burnetii in all evaluated flocks, each with a previous history of reproductive disorders. • These results indicate the need for preventive measures and control of C.

Children's Numerical Estimation Is Biased by Male Informants More Than Female Informants

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 29, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Numerical estimation is one of the key early math skills and predicts children's long‐term math achievement. While children are born with an intuitive “number sense,” they do not form a mapping between nonverbal numerical representations and symbolic numbers until about 5 years of age. This protracted learning process is embedded in children's

Culicoides species involved in the BTV‐3 epidemic, the Netherlands, 2023–2024

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 111-122, March 2026.
A high amount of Culicoides‐midges were captured using Onderstepoort light traps on farms with animals infected with bluetongue serotype 3 (BTV‐3) at the beginning of the outbreak in 2023. Species, sex and parity of the captured Culicoides‐midges were morphologically determined and gravid and parous Culicoides‐midges have been selected and pooled for ...

Boom‐Bust Dynamics Drive Community‐Wide Dietary Structuring in Desert‐Dwelling Raptors

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We investigated how boom‐bust productivity dynamics affected dietary structuring within raptor communities of an arid bioregion. We found that higher productivity was associated with high dietary overlap, lower niche breadth and greater foraging on small mammals; however, raptors that were nomadic exhibited greater specialisation regardless of ...
