Anaerobiosis in Echinochloa crus-galli (Barnyard Grass) Seedlings [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1983
Tolerance to ethanol and the ability to metabolize key intermediary substrates under anaerobiosis were studied in Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv. var oryzicola seeds to further characterize the mechanisms which enable it to germinate and grow without O(2).Our results indicate that E. crus-galli var oryzicola possesses an inherently high tolerance to

Convergence and parallelism in the evolution of plant metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 1013-1031, April 2026.
Similar traits in different organisms may originate from shared ancestry or evolve independently. The terminology used to define phenotypic similarity is often confusing. This review attempts to clarify the definitions and present examples from plant domestication and specialized metabolism to explain how complex traits evolve repeatedly in plants ...

Optimization of Processing Parameters and Quality Evaluation of Breakfast Flakes Prepared From Sonicated Corn and Its By‐Products Supplemented With Quinoa Powder

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Optimization of processing parameters and quality evaluation of breakfast flakes prepared from sonicated corn, and its by‐products supplemented with quinoa powder. ABSTRACT Corn cob (C) and silk (S), produced in substantial quantities as agro‐waste, are rich in bioactive compounds with disease‐preventive potential.

Root discrimination of closely related crop and weed species using FT MIR-ATR spectroscopy

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Root discrimination of species is a pre-condition for studying belowground competition processes between crop and weed species. In this experiment, we tested Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT MIR)-attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectroscopy to ...

Redroot pigweed and barnyard grass as alien plants in Finland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Kasvit ovat kautta aikojen levinneet uusille elinpaikoille. Kasvin asettumista uuteen paikkaan voidaan tarkastella prosessina, jossa on erilaisia vaiheita ja eri vaiheissa eri tekijät ovat tärkeitä.

Plant functional diversity does not dilute virus infection, but community virus prevalence positively correlates with net C3 grass production

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study examines if plant functional diversity dilutes plant virus prevalence in grass hosts and evaluates how virus prevalence influences net community and host production. Functional diversity did not mitigate or amplify virus prevalence. While we found that species relationships between virus prevalence and production varied, overall, virus ...

Herbicidal Activity and Molecular Docking Study of Novel ACCase Inhibitors

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) is an important target enzyme for the development of new bleaching herbicides. On the basis of structure-activity relationships and active subunit combinations, a series of novel 2-phenyl-3-cyclohexanedione enol ester ...

Multiple indicators record human adaptations to climatic change during the Middle Holocene at the Wanbei site in the middle and lower Huai River valley, China

open access: yesBoreas, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 150-163, January 2026.
The archaeological sediment sequences analysis from the Wanbei site reveals a predominantly warm and humid climate with a brief cooling phase between 5600 and 5400 a BP, during the Middle Holocene in the middle and lower Huai River valley. Despite the cooling trend, rice remained the dominant crop in mixed farming, while the proportion of millet ...

Onto greener pastures with rotational grazing of cover crops: Lessons learned from four on‐farm case studies

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 8, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Cover crops are touted for improving soil health, reducing nutrient losses to ground and surface waters, and providing soil protection between cash‐crop growing seasons. While they may improve cash crop yield stability and resilience in the long term, cover crops incur seed, planting, termination, and labor costs to farmers while providing ...

Synergistic effect of ZIF‐8 nanomaterial on 2,4‐D efficacy by regulating auxin synthesis pathway in barnyard grass [Echinochloa crus‐galli (L.) P. Beauv.]

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
ZIF‐8 exhibited a synergistic effect on 2,4‐D efficacy against barnyard grass by regulation of auxin synthesis pathway, as well as the synergistic regulation of metabolic pathways involving 2,4‐D and ZIF‐8. Furthermore, the use of ZIF‐8 as a carrier could improve the safety of 2,4‐D for wheat.
