Dissecting Bar-induced Stellar Kinematics in Disk Galaxies: The Bisymmetric Model and Rotation Curve Modifications

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We analyze bars formed in N -body simulations to investigate two key aspects of stellar kinematic structure of barred galaxies: the angular distributions of the radial and azimuthal components of stellar velocities, and the impact of bars on rotation ...

Chaotic Spiral Galaxies

open access: yes, 2011
We study the role of asymptotic curves in supporting the spiral structure of a N-body model simulating a barred spiral galaxy. Chaotic orbits with initial conditions on the unstable asymptotic curves of the main unstable periodic orbits follow the shape ...

Is NGC 4631 a barred spiral galaxy?

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1991
High- and low-dispersion optical spectra of the giant H II region CM 67 near the center of the edge-on galaxy NGC 4631 have been obtained. Comparisons are made with radio observations to suggest the existence of a large bar in NGC 4631. Region CM 67 is shown to coincide in position with the easternmost peak of a triple radio-continuum source.

Galactic Bars Are Already Mature at Cosmic Noon: Bar Strength and Flatness at z ∼ 1.5

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In this work, we explore the nature of z  > 1 galactic bars. Once thought to be highly transient, our results demonstrate otherwise. Our sample consists of nine massive (>10 ^10.5 M _⊙ ) star-forming barred-spiral galaxies at z _spec  ∼ 1.5.

Secular Evolution and the Formation of Pseudobulges in Disk Galaxies

open access: yes, 2004
We review internal processes of secular evolution in galaxy disks, concentrating on the buildup of dense central features that look like classical, merger-built bulges but that were made slowly out of disk gas. We call these pseudobulges. As an existence

The impact of bars and interactions on optically selected AGNs in spiral galaxies

open access: yes, 2018
Aims. With the aim of performing a suitable comparison of the internal process of galactic bars with respect to the external effect of interactions on driving gas toward the inner most region of the galaxies, we explored the efficiency of both mechanisms

Applying the manifold theory to Milky Way models: First steps on morphology and kinematics

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
We present recent results obtained by applying invariant manifold techniques to analytical models of the Milky Way. It has been shown that invariant manifolds can reproduce successfully the spiral arms and rings in external barred galaxies. Here, for the
