Star Formation Activity of Barred Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2017
Abstract We study the star formation activity of nearby galaxies with bars using a sample of late-type galaxies at and from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.

Pattern speeds in barred spiral galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1988
Des simulations a N corps montrent comment la barre des galaxies SB tourne, se separe de la structure spirale, la rattrappe et se connecte de nouveau au bras spiraux. Cela provient de vitesses de rotation differentes pour la barre et les bras spiraux.

Stellar populations in the center of barred spiral galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2007
AbstractWe show observations obtained with the integral field spectrometer OASIS for the centers of a sample of barred galaxies. The high spatial resolution of the instrument allows to distinguish spatially some structures within these regions as defined by stellar populations of different ages and metallicities.

The Formation of Nuclear Rings in Barred Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2003
To be published in the Astrophysical Journal in January 2003. Due to the size limitations of astro-ph, no figures are in the astro-ph version.

The Frequency of Barred Spiral Galaxies in the Near-Infrared [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astronomical Journal, 2000
We have determined the fraction of barred galaxies in the H-band for a statistically well-defined sample of 186 spirals drawn from the Ohio State University Bright Spiral Galaxy survey. We find 56% of our sample to be strongly barred at H, while another 16% is weakly barred. Only 27% of our sample is unbarred in the near-infrared.

On wave dark matter in spiral and barred galaxies [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2015
We recover spiral and barred spiral patterns in disk galaxy simulations with a Wave Dark Matter (WDM) background (also known as Scalar Field Dark Matter (SFDM), Ultra-Light Axion (ULA) dark matter, and Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) dark matter). Here we show how the interaction between a baryonic disk and its Dark Matter Halo triggers the formation of

A New Statistical Analysis of the Morphology of Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Morphology is the starting point for understanding galaxies. Elmegreen et al. classified spiral galaxies into flocculent, multiple-arm, and grand-design galaxies based on the regularity of their spiral arm structure. With the release of a vast number of clear spiral galaxy images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we conducted a morphological ...

Gaseous Vortices in Barred Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2000
Simulations of the gas flow in a variety of two-dimensional barred spiral galaxies have shown that vortices in the gas appear, when viewed from above, in the corotation frame of the bar. These low-density vortices generally appear at or near the L4 and L5 Lagrangian points.
