HOXA13 in etiology and oncogenic potential of Barrett’s esophagus

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Barrett’s esophagus is a pro-oncogenic lesion in the proximal gastrointestinal tract, but with a distal colon-like morphology. Here the authors report that the distal HOX gene HOXA13 is expressed in Barrett’s esophagus and in single cells of the ...

The prevalence of gastric heterotopia of the proximal esophagus is underestimated, but preneoplasia is rare - correlation with Barrett’s esophagus

open access: yesBMC Gastroenterology, 2017
Background The previously reported prevalence of gastric heterotopia in the cervical esophagus, also termed inlet patch (IP), varies substantially, ranging from 0.18 to 14%.

A targeted antiferromagnetic nanoprobe for ultra‐sensitive magnetic resonance imaging detection of sub‐millimeter esophageal tumors

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
We developed a cyclo‐RGD peptide‐conjugated antiferromagnetic nanoparticle (RANP) as a targeted T1 contrast agent. Under 9 T MRI conditions, RANP exhibited an r1 value of 1.88 mM−1 s−1 and a low r2/r1 ratio of 1.84, enabling the detection of esophageal tumors as small as 0.8 mm in vivo. Abstract Early, non‐invasive detection of esophageal cancer at sub‐

Clonal cell states link gastroesophageal junction tissues with metaplasia and cancer

open access: yesNature Communications
Barrett’s esophagus is a common type of metaplasia and a precursor of esophageal adenocarcinoma. However, the cell states and lineage connections underlying the origin, maintenance, and progression of Barrett’s esophagus have not been resolved in humans.

Outcomes of Radiofrequency Ablation for Dysplastic Barrett’s Esophagus: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2016
Barrett’s esophagus is a condition in which the normal squamous lining of the esophagus has been replaced by columnar epithelium containing intestinal metaplasia induced by recurrent mucosal injury related to gastroesophageal reflux disease.
