A horizontally acquired pantothenate gene drives vitellogenin's benefit to whitefly symbiosis persistence

This diagram illustrates that the horizontally transferred panBC influences the level and localization of vitellogenin (Vg) by facilitating pantothenate production and juvenile hormone (JH) biosynthesis. In turn, Vg shields symbionts by suppressing autophagic degradation in bacteriocytes.
