BASAL METABOLIC RATE IN OBESE CHILDREN

An analysis of the results of 524 observations of the basal metabolism of 348 obese children is presented. Since only 3% of the basal metabolic rates were lower than minus 15% of the Child Research Council surface area-age standards, it is suggested that these standards can be used satisfactorily in the management of children with obesity.
