Cytosine deamination in mismatched base pairs
Biochemistry, 1993The rate of deamination of cytosine in mismatched base pairs has been determined. Incubation of M13mp2 nicked heteroduplex DNA molecules containing T.C or C.C mispairs in the lacZ alpha-complementation gene results in deamination of cytosine to uracil, producing T.U or C.U mispairs. Strands which have undergone deamination at the target site to produce

Dynamics of mismatched base pairs in DNA
Biochemistry, 1991The structural dynamics of mismatched base pairs in duplex DNA have been studied by time-resolved fluorescence anisotropy decay measurements on a series of duplex oligodeoxynucleotides of the general type d[CGG(AP)GGC].d[GCCXCCG], where AP is the fluorescent adenine analogue 2-aminopurine and X = T, A, G, or C.

Electrical current through DNA containing mismatched base pairs
Nanotechnology, 2010Mismatched base pairs, such as different conformations of the G.A mispair, cause only minor structural changes in the host DNA molecule, thereby making mispair recognition an arduous task. Electron transport in DNA that depends strongly on the hopping transfer integrals between the nearest base pairs, which in turn are affected by the presence of a ...

Unique magnetic signatures of mismatched base pairs in DNA
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2010Magnetic properties of DNA containing mispairs, such as different conformations of the G⋅A mispair, or a G⋅T mispair inserted into the DNA chain, have been theoretically investigated. The essential ingredients for these studies, the charge transfer integrals, were evaluated from the DNA sequences containing the mispair and optimized in the solvent.

Base pair mismatch recognition using plasmon resonant particle labels
Analytical Biochemistry, 2002We demonstrate the use of silver plasmon resonant particles (PRPs), as reporter labels, in a microarray-based DNA hybridization assay in which we screen for a known polymorphic site in the breast cancer gene BRCA1. PRPs (40-100 nm in diameter) image as diffraction-limited points of colored light in a standard microscope equipped with dark-field ...

Mismatched base pairing in RNA crystal structures
International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 1999Non-Watson–Crick base pairs or mismatches in RNA crystal structures have been summarized and their effects on the geometry of RNA molecules and their biological implications have been discussed. The mismatches can distort the helical structures by producing kinks/bends and can increase or decrease the major groove width, depending on the sequence.

Tunable spin-selective transport through DNA with mismatched base pairs
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2014In our theoretical analysis of spin-selective transport through a homogeneous poly(G)-poly(C) DNA we explore the influence of a mismatched base pair in the DNA chain. The spin polarization of the electrical current through DNA is strongly sensitive to the presence of the mispair in a DNA with less than 20 base pairs. Replacing a canonical G-C base pair

EFFECT OF MISMATCHED BASE PAIRS ON DNA PLECTONEMES
2022Base pair mismatches in DNA occur during replication and can result in mutations and certain types of cancer. The exact mechanism by which mismatch repair proteins recognize mismatches is still not well understood. Structures of mismatch recognition proteins bound to a mismatch indicate that the process involves introducing a sharp bend in the DNA and ...

Effect of base pair mismatches on recombination via the RecBCD pathway
Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1989The effect of base pair mismatches on recombination via the RecBCD pathway was studied in mutS and wild-type Escherichia coli, using substrates that contain single or multiple mismatches. Recombination between homologous DNA inserts in lambda phage and pBR322-derived plasmids forms phage-plasmid cointegrates that result from an odd numbers of ...
