Critical Discourse Analysis in Corporate Reports: Legitimation Strategies in the Context of Environmental Controversies

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the use of environmental disclosure as a strategic tool to manage legitimacy crises in a mining company, adopting critical discourse analysis (CDA) as the main methodology. Focusing on a case of environmental disaster, this research reveals how corporate narratives can be manipulated to minimize responsibility and reinforce

Basins of Attraction for Various Steffensen-Type Methods

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2014
The dynamical behavior of different Steffensen-type methods is analyzed. We check the chaotic behaviors alongside the convergence radii (understood as the wideness of the basin of attraction) needed by Steffensen-type methods, that is, derivative-free iteration functions, to converge to a root and compare the results using different numerical tests. We

Visualizing Basins of Attraction for Different Minimization Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2013
We report a study of the basins of attraction for potential energy minima defined by different minimisation algorithms for an atomic system. We find that whereas some minimisation algorithms produce compact basins, others produce basins with complex boundaries or basins consisting of disconnected parts.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Mining: An Integrated Institutional and Agency Theory Perspective

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mining is one of the foundations of economic development but has historically been associated with severe socioenvironmental impacts, such as ecosystem degradation, displacement of traditional communities, and large‐scale disasters. In this context, corporate social responsibility (CSR) plays a central role as a mechanism for legitimizing ...

Estimation of the basin of attractions in CNNs

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 1998
Summary: A technique is discussed in order to find an estimation of the basin of attraction for each stable equilibrium point in cellular neural networks. The technique is based on the determination of the direction of the trajectories for each of the regions in which the state space is devided via the piecewise linear output function of each cell.

Board Independence and Corporate Social Responsibility: A Literature Review With a Focus on Country Effects

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the relationship between board independence and corporate social responsibility (CSR) outcomes. Based on legitimacy theory, we conducted a structured literature review of 167 archival studies to analyze the influence of board independence on CSR performance and reporting.

Stability and bifurcations of heteroclinic cycles of type Z

open access: yes, 2012
Dynamical systems that are invariant under the action of a non-trivial symmetry group can possess structurally stable heteroclinic cycles. In this paper we study stability properties of a class of structurally stable heteroclinic cycles in R^n which we ...

Slip versus dilation tendency parameter space as a tool for prospecting structurally controlled geothermal systems in greenfield: insights from the greater Ruhr region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study highlights that with the static and time‐dependent evolution of slip versus dilation tendency parameter space, structurally controlled deep geothermal systems can be selected within areas of higher permeability and lower seismic hazard. Abstract Faults play a vital role in the Earth's hydraulic system by facilitating fluid flow when dilating

A Model for Persistent Levy Motion

open access: yes, 1999
We propose the model, which allows us to approximate fractional Levy noise and fractional Levy motion. Our model is based (i) on the Gnedenko limit theorem for an attraction basin of stable probability law, and (ii) on regarding fractional noise as the ...
