Small Batch or Large Batch?

Proceedings of the 23rd ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, 2017
Efficiency of large-scale learning is a hot topic in both academic and industry. The stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithm, and its extension mini-batch SGD, allow the model to be updated without scanning the whole data set. However, the use of approximate gradient leads to the uncertainty issue, slowing down the decreasing of objective function.

Batch Variations

Dermatologic Clinics, 1990
One of the basic principles in the investigation of suspected contact dermatitis is always to test with the patient's "own" product or chemical, the one to which he or she was actually exposed. An equally basic second principle is not to rely solely on a positive test reaction.

Multivariate monitoring of batch processes using batch‐to‐batch information

AIChE Journal, 2004
AbstractMultiway principal component analysis (MPCA) and multiway partial‐least squares (MPLS) are well‐established methods for the analysis of historical data from batch processes, and for monitoring the progress of new batches. Direct measurements made on prior batches can also be incorporated into the analysis by monitoring with multiblock methods ...

Antibody Batch Cloning

2023
The antigen-binding ability of each antibody clone selected by phage display is usually initially ranked by a screening ELISA using monovalent scFv antibody fragments. Further characterization often requires bivalent antibody molecules such as IgG or scFv-Fc fusions.

Batch griding kinetics

Powder Technology, 1992
Abstract A general solution has been found for an equation describing batch grinding kinetics, based on the assumption that in disintegrating a single particle the size distribution of fragments can be described by the Goden—Schuhmann—Andreev equation.

Batched Queuing Processes

Operations Research, 1964
General single server queues are considered with (i) arrivals in single units and batched departures, (ii) batched arrivals and departures in single units. Queue sizes at the following instants are compared: (1) just before arrivals; (2) just after departures; (3) through time.

Batch Introduction Techniques

2005
Mass spectrometry (MS) is widely used as a rapid tool for peptide profiling and protein identification. However, the success of the method is compromised by dirty and contaminated samples. Moreover, analysis from a small sample volume with a relative high concentration is usually required.

Batch Suspension Culture

2003
Batch culture involves the inoculation of a known volume or mass of cells into a volume of (normally) defined medium. Growth is allowed to proceed, and the resulting biomass is harvested at some stage during the growth cycle. Throughout the growth period, no additions are made to the media, with the exception of acid and alkali, if needed, for pH ...
