Improving bathymetric images exploration: A data mining approach

Computers & Geosciences, 2013
Bathymetry is the science of measuring and charting the depths to determine the topography of the seafloor and other bodies of water. It has several important practical and academic applications. For this reason, having computational tools capable of analyzing bathymetric charts would be useful for domain experts studying the various problems related ...

Memory intensive statistical algorithms for multibeam bathymetric data

Computers & Geosciences, 1991
Abstract A set of algorithms is presented for analyzing and processing the large spatial data sets which are derived from multibeam bathymetry systems. These algorithms are designed to make use of large two-dimensional arrays to enable: (1) the estimation of how many times a particular area has been sampled, (2) the approximation of the bathymetric ...

On the accuracy of digital bathymetric data

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1993
The global 5‐arcmin gridded topography data ETOPO‐5 are based on contour maps rather than original soundings and have large errors. The artificial statistical distribution generated by digitizing contours makes these data unsuitable for use in regression models for depth‐age variations.

Analysis of Challenges in Remote Data Processing for Bathymetric Data

OCEANS 2018 MTS/IEEE Charleston, 2018
The term “telecommuting” or working remotely is an idea that has been around in forward-thinking companies since the creation of the internet. Early proponents promised office workers and managers a utopian symbiotic scenario where hyper-productive staff inhabit cafe corners and waterfront verandas in far flung locations while still working together to

Derivative Based Bathymetric Algorithms for Hyperspectral Data

1999
Abstract : LONG-TERM GOALS. Our long-term goal is the development of spectral analysis tools that fully exploit the information content in hyperspectral image data, particularly as it applies to passive, remote sensing derived bathymetry. OBJECTIVES. The objective of this work was to develop an effective method for extracting bathymetric information ...

Automatic Detection of Seafloor Bedforms for 3D Bathymetric Data

Ibero-Latin American Congress on Computational Methods in Engineering (CILAMCE)
Seafloor bedforms are sedimentary structures that can reveal the local hydrodynamics conditions as they are the result of the bottom sediments' response to the dominant flow. The studying of these dynamic bottom shapes is important given that they can provide auxiliary information for the mapping of benthic habitats and can present a risk to navigation
