Mapping River Bed Topography in Whitewater Rapids Using Bathymetric LiDAR
ABSTRACT Bathymetric LiDAR captures river topography efficiently for clear and shallow water, but for mountain rivers, whitewater rapids still pose challenges. This study proposes a novel method to enable the extraction of bottom returns specifically in turbulent whitewater sections.

Many researchers have used the species composition, relative abundance and distribution pattern of profundal benthic macroinvertebrate communities in particular, especially chironomid fauna, as indicators of the trophic state and pollution of lakes.

Elasmobranch spatial segregation in the western Mediterranean
Basic information on the distribution and habitat preferences of ecologically important species is essential for their management and protection. This study focuses on the depth related trends and the geographic patterns that shape the community of the ...

ALB Evaluation for NOAA charting requirements [PDF]
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) acquires hydrographic data around the coasts of the US and its territories using in-house surveys and contracting resources. Hydrographic data are primarily collected using sonar systems, while a

Hypsometry and Volume of the Arctic Ocean and Its Constituent Seas [PDF]
This paper presents an analysis of the Arctic Ocean and its constituent seas for seafloor area distribution versus depth and ocean volume. The bathymetry from the International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) is used together with limits ...

Strategies for Assessing Post‐Wildfire Geomorphic Resilience in Semiarid Rivers
ABSTRACT We review and summarize diverse components of a catchment that can be monitored after wildfire to assess the geomorphic resilience of the river corridor in semiarid regions. We distinguish upland portions of river catchments from river corridors.

Glacial cycles drive variations in the production of oceanic crust
Glacial cycles redistribute water between oceans and continents causing pressure changes in the upper mantle, with consequences for melting of Earth's interior.

Lessons Learnt From Long‐Term Monitoring of River Restoration in an English Chalk Stream
ABSTRACT River restoration can be difficult to evaluate due to insufficient monitoring over timescales too short to adequately capture physical and ecological response. To better understand restoration outcomes, this study quantified changes in physical habitat (depth, velocity, substrate composition) and macroinvertebrates at two restoration projects ...

The Impact of Acoustic Imaging Geometry on the Fidelity of Seabed Bathymetric Models [PDF]
Attributes derived from digital bathymetric models (DBM) are a powerful means of analyzing seabed characteristics. Those models however are inherently constrained by the method of seabed sampling. Most bathymetric models are derived by collating a number

Meander‐Bend Erosion Dynamics Along a Gravel‐Bed River: Insights From Short‐Term UAV Monitoring
ABSTRACT Riverbank erosion is a natural process in meandering rivers that contributes to sediment supply and geomorphic diversity, yet it can threaten infrastructure and human activities within the floodplain. Recently, many studies have used high‐resolution remote sensing technologies to measure bank erosion, but they often focus on technical aspects ...
