Checklist of Recent Cylindriscala (Caenogastropoda: Epitoniidae) of the world [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List, 2012
A checklist of deep water gastropods belonging to the genus Cylindriscala is presented based mainly on data from the literature. We list a total of 21 species and include information on the geographic and bathymetric distribution of each taxon.

Individual movement modeling expands the power of migratory species observations: North Atlantic right whale case study

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding a population's distribution depends on observing the presence and movement of individuals throughout their range. For highly mobile marine species, these observations typically rely on high effort monitoring programs. Tracking enough individuals to understand trends in movement behavior is not always logistically feasible, and ...

Benthic Harpacticoida of the Cara sea: species composition and bathymetric distribution

open access: yesОкеанология, 2019
Data on benthic harpacticoid copepods from the Voronin Trench (central part of the Kara Sea) are reported for the first time. Harpacticoids accounted for 1–25% of total meiofauna, their abundance varied from 6 to 102 ind/10 cm2 and decreased with depth. Totally, 42 nominal species have been found, 15 species are new for the Kara Sea, and at least eight

Rapidly declining seagrass meadows in Brazil: Findings from satellite imagery and local knowledge

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Due to the limitations of individual monitoring approaches, integrating social perceptions with multiple advanced technologies provides a new opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of ecosystem degradation. We combined historical aerial mapping, satellite imagery, semi‐structured interviews with local stakeholders, and a bilingual ...

Assimilation of machine‐learning‐predicted nitrate to improve the quality of phytoplankton forecasting in the shelf‐sea environment

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates that assimilating machine‐learning‐derived surface nitrate can improve five‐day phytoplankton forecast substantially within the Met Office operational system for the Northwest European Shelf. We explain the reasons behind this improvement and propose that an online system where machine learning and data assimilation are cycled
