Weather Patterns Associated With Coastal Disasters in Santa Catarina, Southern Brazil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The study identified weather patterns (WPs) associated with coastal disasters between 1998 and 2020 along the Santa Catarina coast, Brazil. Using atmospheric and oceanographic data combined with official disaster records, five WPs were defined, mainly associated with cyclonic and anticyclonic systems linked to extreme wave events.

Cephalopod Distribution in the Canary Current: Latitudinal and Bathymetric Patterns

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography
ABSTRACTAimThe Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME) is one of the four major marine upwelling systems worldwide. Cephalopods in this region exhibit high diversity and abundance, but the distributional patterns of most species are largely unknown. The present study updated the latitudinal and bathymetric distributions cephalopods species in the

Early deglaciation history of the southeastern Baffin Island shelf (Eastern Canadian Arctic Archipelago)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT During the last glacial period, the Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) was the largest terrestrial ice sheet on Earth. Its evolution since the Last Glacial Maximum profoundly influenced Earth's geodynamics and surface processes. Investigating the past dynamics of the LIS provides critical insights into how contemporary ice sheets may respond to ...

An attempt to assess the ecological status of a lake based on historical and current maps of submerged vegetation

open access: yesArchives of Polish Fisheries, 2017
The possibility of doing a back assessment of the ecological status of a lake based on archival bathymetric maps indicating areas overgrown with rushes and aquatic vegetation was verified.

Diel cycle of two recurrent fish sounds from mesophotic coral reefs

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2023
Mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) are the deepest part of tropical coral reefs, ranging from depths of 30 to over 170 m. Despite their significance, MCEs remain largely unexplored due to the challenges associated with accessing these depths.

Seabed classification in the Gulf of Alaska from acoustic surveys using deep learning

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract High‐resolution mapping of seafloor habitats has wide applications for fisheries, conservation efforts, offshore infrastructure planning, mineral extraction, and scientific modeling. This study leverages existing widespread single‐beam acoustic data and machine learning to create habitat maps for the Gulf of Alaska at a spatial resolution of ...
