Journal of Natural Medicines, 2008Bauhinia malabarica Roxb. has been used in Thai traditional medicine for wound healing, as a diuretic, to fight dysentery and as an emmenagogue. Seven flavonols, including 6,8-di-C-methylkaempferol 3-methyl ether, kaempferol, afzelin, quercetin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin, and hyperoside were isolated from the methanol extract of leaves.

2020Both species of Bauhinia, i.e. B. tomentosa and B. variegata are described as Kachnal or Kuchnar/Kachnar in Unani medicine literature. Bark is described as alterative, tonic, and astringent, useful in skin diseases and ulcers, to prevent decomposition of blood and humours, and used for leprosy and scrofula.

Bauhinia x blakeana Dunn has long been proposed to be a sterile interspecific hybrid exhibiting flower heterosis when compared to its parental species, Bauhinia purpurea L. and Bauhinia variegata L. Here, we report comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses of the three Bauhinia species.
