On the Bauschinger effect in TiAl alloys [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2016
Abstract The Bauschinger effect has been investigated at room temperature on a multiphase titanium aluminide alloy based on γ(TiAl). The effect of strain reversal was assessed by comparing uni-directional tensile tests with those performed on specimens made from pre-compressed material.

Extraordinary Bauschinger effect in gradient structured copper

open access: yesScripta Materialia, 2018
Abstract Bauschinger effect is a well-known phenomenon, in which the tensile stress is higher than the reverse compressive stress. Here we report that the gradient structured copper exhibits an extraordinarily large Bauschinger effect. We propose to use the reverse yield softening, Δσb, as a quantitative parameter to represent the Bauschinger effect.

Influence of near-surface dislocation cellular structure on Bauschinger effect

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
Long range internal stress (LRIS) based mechanism and non-LRIS explanation regarding Bauschinger effect are in debate. LRIS is originated from dislocation pile-up and/or cell generated by the pre-loading, therefore dislocation structure characterization ...

Material Effects on Tangent Modulus of Steel Square Hollow Section [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation in Civil Engineering, 2023
The kind of mild steel, the Bauschinger effect because of strain reversal and strain ageing are indicated to affect significantly the tangent modulus of elasticity.

Lattice strain measurements using synchrotron diffraction to calibrate a micromechanical modeling in a ferrite–cementite steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In situ tensile tests were performed at room temperature on a ferrite–cementite steel specifically designed for this study. The evolution of the average stress in ferrite during loading was analyzed by X-ray diffraction.Lattice strain measurements were ...

Study of Bauschinger Effect by Reverse Shearing of 70:30 Brass

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Engineering Sciences, 2006
Reverse shear experiments were conducted on a low stacking fault energy (SFE) material, namely 70:30 brass, and for comparison a high SFE material, namely commercial pure aluminum 1100, was chosen.

Strength Assessment of Rectangular Plates Subjected to Extreme Cyclic Load Reversals

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The objective of this study is to investigate the strength of the rectangular plates subjected to cyclic load reversals with varying strain ranges. The finite element solution is implemented to estimate the load-carrying capacity.

Ultimate Load Capacity and Behavior of Thin-Walled Curved-Steel Square Struts, Subjected to Compressive Load [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering Infrastructures Journal, 2016
There have been some experimental tests on hollow curved-steel struts with thin-walled square sections, in order to investigate their general behavior, particularly their capacity for bearing differing loads.

Shear Banding in Binary Cu-Zr Metallic Glass: Comparison of the G-Phase With L-Phase

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
We identified two glass phases formed in three undercooled liquids of elemental Ag, binary Cu-Ag, and binary Cu-Zr alloys using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations: 1) The homogeneous L-phase arises from quenching quickly from high temperature liquid. 2)
