Can inorganic fertilizer substitute for organic amendments in the rehabilitation of saline, sodic ore refining residues?

open access: yes, 2003
Organic amendments would generally be attractive additions for revegetation of ore refining residues that mostly contain negligible organic matter. However organic materials may not be available on mine sites in sufficient quantities and are bulky to ...

qPCR‐Based Environmental DNA (eDNA) Detection of Cryptic Arboreal Species Interaction With Artificial Habitat Structures

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
Through integrated in silico design, in vitro optimization, and in situ validation, we developed two probe‐based qPCR assays to detect cryptic phascogales from artificial habitat structures. This provides a robust, noninvasive tool to assist in evaluating fauna in managed landscapes.

Phytophthora root and collar rot in rehabilitated bauxite mines and the adjacent Eucalyptus marginata (Jarrah) forest of Western Australia

open access: yes, 2000
This study gives an overview of recent and current research activities that are being conducted in Western Australia on the biology, ecology and pathology of Phytophthora cinnamomi in rehabilitated bauxite mines and the adjacent jarrah (Eucalyptus ...

Effective Removal of Fe and Ca From Coal Fly Ash for High‐Purity and High‐Surface‐Area Zeolite X Synthesis: A Comparative Study of Acid Refluxing and Acid Roasting Methods

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
Coal fly ash (CFA) is an abundant industrial waste rich in silica and alumina and represents a viable feedstock for zeolite synthesis; however, high levels of calcium and iron limit zeolite purity and crystallisation. This study evaluates acid refluxing and acid roasting as pre‐treatment strategies for the simultaneous removal of Ca and Fe from high ...

Post‐Eocene 90° CCW Rotation of Sardinia‐South Corsica: Paleomagnetic Evidence From Permian‐Cretaceous Sediments of Nurra (NW Sardinia)

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract The paleomagnetism of Miocene calc‐alkaline volcanics and sediments from Sardinia has firmly showed that the Corsica‐Sardinia microplate rotated 50°–60° counterclockwise (CCW) with respect to Europe between 21 and 15 Ma, during its drift from the Provencal margin. However, Permian to Eocene rocks from central‐south Sardinia revealed higher (up

Potential for kaolin and bauxite in the near-littoral sediments of the State of Amapá, Eastern Guiana Shield, northern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of the Geological Survey of Brazil
In Amapá, northern Brazil, there is potential for large and not yet identified economical deposits of kaolin and bauxite in the Cenozoic belt of sediments that cover the margins of the Eastern Guiana Shield next to the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon ...

Fine Bauxite Recovery Using a Plate-Packed Flotation Column

open access: yesMetals, 2020
In this investigation, the fine-grained bauxite ore flotation was conducted in a plate-packed flotation column. This paper evaluated the effects of packing-plates on recovering fine bauxite particles and revealed the fundamental mechanisms.

Impacts of amending bauxite residue sands with residue fines for the establishment of vegetation on residue disposal areas

open access: yes, 2009
Long term storage of bauxite residue materials requires a capping stratum which will limit erosion while stabilizing slopes, limit deep infiltration of water into storage piles, and be aesthetically acceptable to the surrounding community.

F K‐edge XAS as a tool to examine F environments in complex inorganic systems

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 715-724, May 2026.
Experimental and computational F K‐edge X‐ray absorption spectra of a range of complex inorganic materials are presented and analysed, with discussion as to what information on F speciation and environment can be obtained from the spectra. Observations and recommendations are made that will assist future research in the collection and analysis of high ...

Pretreatment of bauxite with hydrogen [PDF]

open access: yes
"As part of a U.S. Bureau of Mines program seeking improvements to the Bayer process, a typical Jamaican bauxite was heated at temperatures up to 500 deg C in hydrogen, its leachability under Bayer process conditions was measured, and properties of its ...
