Abstract The tectonic evolution of the northern margin of the North China Craton (NCC) remains controversial. In this study, we obtained zircon U–Pb ages, geochemical data, and Sr–Nd isotopic data for volcanic rocks, and detrital zircon ages for sedimentary rocks from the Yufutun, Tongqigou, and Benxi formations in central‐southern Jilin Province, NE ...

Natural Resources and Political Patronage in Africa: An Ethnicity Level Analysis
ABSTRACT We investigate the effect of resource discoveries on ethnicity‐level political patronage in Africa using a large geospatial dataset of 254 ethnic groups in 15 countries over the period 1960–2004. We find that the first (or single first) resource discovery in a virgin ethnic homeland increases the share of cabinet posts of that ethnicity.

Replacement of Sand with Bauxite Mining Waste in Concrete Production
The use of natural sand as fine aggregate in concrete is becoming problematic due to scarcity and pressure on mining of the resource. Alternate sources such as the use of industrial waste as replacement of natural sand in concrete are gaining popularity ...

Batteries From Reused, Recycled, and Surplus Materials
Batteries can become more circular by combining reuse, direct recycling, metallurgical recovery, and material sourcing from industrial surplus streams. This Review highlights how recycled and waste‐derived metals, carbons, polymers, electrolytes, and active materials can be reintegrated into current and emerging batteries, while emphasizing design ...

Full Analysis of Sierra Leone Bauxite and Possibilities of Bauxite Residue Filtration
Chemical analysis, classical or instrumental using ICP and the XRF spectrometry, offers complete information on elemental composition and major chemical constituents of bauxite and bauxite residues resulted from the Bayer process. The XRD diffractometric analysis provides information on quantitative mineralogical composition of these materials and it ...

ABSTRACT Background Mining workers are exposed to a range of respiratory hazards, including respirable dust. While exposure to respirable crystalline silica in the mining industry has been found to be common, less is known about trends in measured levels of exposure to respirable dust overall.

Toward the bioleaching of bauxite residue by Gluconobacter oxydans
Abstract Aim This project evaluated a biologically mediated strategy to solubilize several rare earth elements and critical raw materials, including scandium, from bauxite residue. This work seeks to expand on previous research on contact leaching with bauxite.
