Bayes and empirical-Bayes multiplicity adjustment in the variable-selection problem [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Statistics 2010, Vol. 38, No. 5, 2587-2619, 2010
This paper studies the multiplicity-correction effect of standard Bayesian variable-selection priors in linear regression. Our first goal is to clarify when, and how, multiplicity correction happens automatically in Bayesian analysis, and to distinguish this correction from the Bayesian Ockham's-razor effect.

Bayes' theorem and quantum retrodiction [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Mod. Opt. 47, 1779, 2000, 2001
We derive on the basis of Bayes' theorem a simple but general expression for the retrodicted premeasurement state associated with the result of any measurement. The retrodictive density operator is the normalised probability operator measure element associated with the result.

Error rates in SARS-CoV-2 testing examined with Bayes' theorem [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon, 2021
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has created a demand for large scale testing, as part of the effort to understand and control transmission. It is important to quantify the error rates of test equipment under field conditions, which might differ significantly ...

Posterior probability and fluctuation theorem in stochastic processes [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 78, 123001 (2009), 2009
A generalization of fluctuation theorems in stochastic processes is proposed. The new theorem is written in terms of posterior probabilities, which are introduced via the Bayes theorem. In usual fluctuation theorems, a forward path and its time reversal play an important role, so that a microscopically reversible condition is essential.

Paraconsistent Probabilities: Consistency, Contradictions and Bayes’ Theorem

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
This paper represents the first steps towards constructing a paraconsistent theory of probability based on the Logics of Formal Inconsistency (LFIs).

Law of total probability and Bayes' theorem in Riesz spaces [PDF]

open access: greenarXiv, 2015
This note generalizes the notion of conditional probability to Riesz spaces using the order-theoretic approach. With the aid of this concept, we establish the law of total probability and Bayes' theorem in Riesz spaces; we also prove an inclusion-exclusion formula in Riesz spaces. Several examples are provided to show that the law of total probability,

Application of Bayes' Theorem in Valuating Depression Tests Performance [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2018
The validity of clinical diagnoses is a fundamental topic in clinical psychology, because now there are some political administrations, as the IOM or the U.K. government, which are focusing on best evidence-based practice in clinical psychology. The most

Expert System for Diagnosis Chicken Disease using Bayes Theorem [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2019
Chicken disease is a condition in which the body organs of chickens cannot function normally. Diagnosing a disease requires symptoms that appear on the chicken’s body. To conduct a disease diagnosis, further examination is needed by specialists (experts).

Bayes' theorem, the ROC diagram and reference values: Definition and use in clinical diagnosis. [PDF]

open access: yesBiochem Med (Zagreb), 2018
Medicine is diagnosis, treatment and care. To diagnose is to consider the probability of the cause of discomfort experienced by the patient. The physician may face many options and all decisions are liable to uncertainty to some extent.
