Frontal Recess Morphology and Frontal Sinus Cell Pneumatization Variations on Chronic Frontal Sinusitis

open access: yesB-ENT, 2023
Objective: The morphology and anatomical structure of the frontal sinus and recess are quite complex. The assessment of sinus ventilation is important in understanding the pathophysiology of chronic frontal sinusitis.

Laparoscopic complete excision of an enormous simple hepatic cyst occupying the entire abdomen in a child: a case report and literature review

open access: yesSurgical Case Reports, 2022
Background Simple hepatic cysts are common lesions in adults, but rare in children. Because of their benign nature, simple hepatic cysts may not be detected until they grow too large to be diagnosed and resected in a minimally invasive manner.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Feed particle selection and nutrient intake altered by pecking stone consumption and beak length in free-range laying hens

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition, 2019
The present study investigated the effects of pecking stones on feeding behaviour of hens from 16 to 46 weeks of age. Eighteen flocks of Hy-Line Brown hens were housed in 2 commercial free-range housing systems.

Effects of edible environmental enrichments during the rearing and laying periods in a littered aviary—Part 1: integument condition in pullets and laying hens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
Severe feather pecking is a damaging allopecking behavior in pullets and laying hens which was found to be associated with multiple factors. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the occurrence of feather pecking could be reduced by additional

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Anterior Decompression via a Single Posterior Approach Using the Ultrasonic Bone Scalpel for the Treatment of the Thoracic Segmental Ossification of Posterior Longitudinal Ligament: A Report of Three Cases

open access: yesSpine Surgery and Related Research, 2022
Introduction: Thoracic myelopathy due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (T-OPLL) is an indication for surgical treatment because the symptom is usually progressive.

Studies of beak and feather disease virus infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The circovirus Beak and feather disease virus (BFDV) causes psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) that is characterised by a chronic disease process associated with feather abnormalities, beak deformities and eventual death in various species of ...

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Development of novel diagnostic and vaccine options for beak and feather disease virus (BFDV) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Beak and Feather Disease Virus (BFDV) is a circovirus which causes ill-thrift, feather loss and immunosuppression leading to secondary infections and eventually death in psittacine birds.
