Beamstrahlung-enhanced disruption in beam–beam interaction [PDF]

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2021
The radiation reaction (beamstrahlung) effect on particle dynamics during interaction of oppositely charged beams is studied. It is shown that the beam focusing can be strongly enhanced due to beamstrahlung. An approximate analytical solution of the motion equation including the radiation reaction force is derived.

The coherent beam-beam interaction [PDF]

open access: yesConference Record of the 1991 IEEE Particle Accelerator Conference, 2002
The authors present the results of a new beam-beam simulation program that allows for a self-consistent calculation of the electromagnetic fields of the beams by treating general (non-Gaussian) beam distributions. The simulation program calculates the fields from the coordinates of the test-particles, and does not impose any restrictions on the beam ...

Coherent beam-beam tune shift of unsymmetrical beam-beam interactions with large beam-beam parameter [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2005
Coherent beam-beam tune shift of unsymmetrical beam-beam interactions was studied experimentally and numerically in HERA where the lepton beam has a very large beam-beam parameter (up to $ _y=0.272$). Unlike the symmetrical case of beam-beam interactions, the ratio of the coherent and incoherent beam-beam tune shift in this unsymmetrical case of beam ...

Merging beam-beam interaction [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 1999 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat. No.99CH36366), 2003
A new type of particle collisions is considered. In merging collisions two comoving beams intersect each other at small angle to provide low collision energy required for nuclear fusion experiments. An expression for luminosity is obtained. It is shown that luminosity has a maximum value depending on particle velocity.

Beam-beam interaction for tilted storage rings

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2023
Abstract In the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) design, to avoid vertical orbit bumps in the Electron Storage Ring (ESR) at some crossing points with Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) to preserve the electron polarization, we plan to tilt the ESR plane by 200 μrad with an axis connecting IP6 and IP8.

Numerical optimization of dc wire parameters for mitigation of the long range beam-beam interactions in High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2021
Several configurations of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, whose performance at collision is mainly limited due to the strong beam-beam long-range interactions, are studied in the presence of dc wire compensators.

Anomalous Interactions of Airy Solitons Modulated by a Fundamental Gaussian Beam and Fourth-Order Diffraction

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
We investigate the interactions of in-phase Airy beams modulated by a fundamental Gaussian beam and fourth-order diffraction in Kerr nonlinear media. Directly numerical simulations show that normal (anomalous) fourth-order diffraction and an in-phase ...

Beam stripping interactions in compact cyclotrons

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2021
Beam stripping losses of H^{-} ion beams by interactions with residual gas and electromagnetic fields are evaluated. These processes play an important role in compact cyclotrons where the beam is produced on an internal ion source, and they operate under

Simulations of beam-beam and beam-wire interactions in RHIC

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2009
The beam-beam interaction is one of the dominant sources of emittance growth and luminosity lifetime deterioration. A current-carrying wire has been proposed to compensate long-range beam-beam effects in the LHC and strong localized long-range beam-beam ...
