MANIPULATED SYNCHRONIZATION: BEAM STEERING IN PHASED ARRAYS

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2000
We consider a relatively new application of mutually interacting, synchronized oscillators. The idea is to intentionally introduce variations among the elements to induce phase shifts between the oscillators. Though often unwanted, in certain instances these phase shifts are highly desirable: We discuss how to manipulate array parameters in order to ...

Beam Steering in Anisotropic Metamaterials

Frontiers in Optics 2010/Laser Science XXVI, 2010
We propose tunable anisotropic metamaterials consisting of silver nanorods and dielectric medium for applications to beam steering and demultiplexing. The tunability is achieved by changing the fill fraction and the properties of the dielectric medium.

Amplitude Based Beam Steering

2019 IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array System & Technology (PAST), 2019
Traditional methods of beam steering of antennas have used phase as the primary variable. The intent of this research work is to revisit the idea of using amplitude rather than phase or mechanical motion to steer the beam and explore it as a possibility for some of today's needs.

Beam steering in waveguide arrays

Applied Physics Letters, 2002
We demonstrate that highly efficient beam steering and switching can be achieved in thermo-optic waveguide arrays. For a given initial excitation, we find the position of the output field to depend on the transverse temperature gradient. By changing this gradient, we manage to steer the beam across the entire array.

Beam Steering in the SLC Linac

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1985
In order to control emittance growth due to transverse wakefields it will be necessary to transport electrons and positrons through the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) linac to within a hundred ?m of the centers of the linac irises. Beam centering will be accomplished using computer routines to read stripline beam position monitors and in turn correct ...

Beam-Steered Optical Wireless Communication

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2025
Optical wireless communication employing narrow but steerable laser beams is an emerging technology to realize high-capacity indoor communications, given robust beam pointing and advanced transceivers. We discuss a prototype system and present results from a typical indoor link.

Agile Nonmechanical Beam Steering

Optics and Photonics News, 2006
The day is coming when engineers will be able to replace mechanical complex gimbal and steering mirror assemblies in electro-optical systems with thin, conformal devices that either have no moving parts or only make use of micro-motion.
