Nature, 1950THE performance of ion sources, associated with accelerating tubes, is limited by space-charge phenomena, particularly troublesome in the vicinity of the extraction aperture. It is therefore desirable to avoid space-charge accumulation along the whole path of the ions. This can be obtained by changing the configuration of the extraction field.

Virtual source for a Laguerre–Gauss beam
Optics Letters, 2002A virtual source that generates a cylindrically symmetric Laguerre-Gauss wave of radial mode number n is introduced. An expression is derived for this Laguerre-Gauss wave that in the appropriate limit yields the corresponding Laguerre-Gauss beam.
