Interplay between multiple scattering and optical nonlinearity in liquid crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We discuss the role played by time-dependent scattering on light propagation in liquid crystals. In the linear regime, the effects of the molecular disorder accumulate in propagation, yielding a monotonic decrease in the beam spatial coherence.

Beam steering of a single nanoantenna

open access: yesOptics Express, 2020
Nanoantennas play an important role as mediators to efficiently convert free-space light into localized optical energy and vice versa. However, effective control of the beam direction of a single nanoantenna remains a great challenge. In this paper, we propose an approach to steer the beam direction of a single nanoantenna by adjusting two antenna ...

Multifunctional optofluidic lens with beam steering

open access: yesOptics Express, 2020
In this paper, we demonstrate a multifunctional optofluidic (MO) lens with beam steering, which is actuated by electrowetting effect. A liquid lens chamber and a liquid prism chamber are stacked to form the MO lens. When the liquid lens chamber is actuated with voltage, the curvature of liquid-liquid interface changes accordingly and the focal length ...

Changes in Body Composition in Children and Young People Undergoing Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ongoing evidence indicates increased risk of sarcopenic obesity among children and young people (CYP) with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), often beginning early in treatment, persisting into survivorship. This review evaluates current literature on body composition in CYP with ALL during and after treatment.

Two Dimensional Array Imaging with Beam Steered Data

open access: yes, 2013
This paper discusses different approaches used for millimeter wave imaging of two-dimensional objects. Imaging of a two dimensional object requires reflected wave data to be collected across two distinct dimensions.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

A Compact, Wide Field-of-View Gradient-index Lens Antenna for Millimeter-wave MIMO on Mobile Devices

open access: yes, 2017
Lens-based beam-forming antennas offer a low-power, low-cost alternative to hybrid beamforming antenna arrays. They are ideally suited to millimeter-wave massive MIMO systems due to their native beam-space operation and angular selectivity and minimal ...
