Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Joint Mechanical-Electrical Beam Steering for Maritime-LEO Communications: Optimizing Performance Through ESPRIT-Based DOA Estimation

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
Non-terrestrial networks, particularly satellite communications, provide ubiquitous connectivity in next-generation wireless systems. As signals from terrestrial networks cannot reach vessels far from shore, satellite communication is critical in ...

Graphene-dielectric metamaterial for beam steering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This work presents the designs of tunable mid-infrared (MIR) beam steering devices based on multilayer graphene-dielectric metamaterials. A tunable beam steering is achieved by changing the chemical potential of each graphene layer and, therefore, the ...

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Design of a terahertz beam-steering photomixer array

open access: yes2017 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation & USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2017
This paper presents the design of a beam-steering photomixer array for terahertz applications. The design consists of the combination of two identical triple stub circuit (TSC) topologies that allows the impedance tuning and insertion phase control simultaneously.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.
