PLAL Nanoparticles yield enhancement through cylindrical lens beam shaping [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
This study allows us to understand both the beam structure and the production of NPs in pulsed laser ablation in liquids (PLAL) by modifying the spatial structure of the Gaussian beam.

Analysis of Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Reinforced Concrete Column-Steel Reinforced Concrete Beam Plane Frame Structure Subjected to Fire

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
The ABAQUS finite-element analysis platform was used to understand the mechanical behavior of concrete-filled steel tube reinforced concrete (CFSTRC) columns and steel reinforced concrete (SRC) beam plane frames under fire conditions.

A deflection, buckling and stress investigation into telescopic cantilever beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The telescoping cantilever beam structure is applied in many different engineering sectors to achieve weight/space optimisation for structural integrity ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

An anisotropic lattice Boltzmann - phase field model for dendrite growth and movement in rapid solidification of binary alloys

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
A model coupling the lattice Boltzmann and the phase field methods with anisotropic effects is proposed, which is used to numerically describe the growth and movement of dendrites in rapid solidification of alloys.

Giant Goos-Hanchen effect at the reflection from left-handed metamaterials

open access: yes, 2003
We study the beam reflection from a layered structure with a left-handed metamaterial. We predict a giant lateral (Goos-Hanchen) shift and splitting of the beam due to the resonant excitation of surface polaritons with a vortex-like energy flow between ...

Structural Analysis of Directional Deflection Beams

open access: yesJournal of Robotics and Mechatronics, 2005
Parallel leaf springs are often used for precise linear motion because of their simplicity and freedom from static friction in cases where elasticity and high deformation are required. Using a parallel beam in force sensing requires minimum deflection and limited stress concentration.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Design and Application of a High Sensitivity Piezoresistive Pressure Sensor for Low Pressure Conditions

open access: yesSensors, 2015
In this paper, a pressure sensor for low pressure detection (0.5 kPa–40 kPa) is proposed. In one structure (No. 1), the silicon membrane is partly etched to form a crossed beam on its top for stress concentration.
