Effect of beam wander on the scintillation characterization for multiple beams
SPIE Proceedings, 2013An 4km optical link was established to examine the effect of beam wander on the scintillation characterization for multiple focus beams. Multiple beams that sample different portions of the atmosphere reduce the scintillation if the atmospheric turbulence each beam traverses is independent.

Beam wander relieved optical switch using Bessel beams in turbulent atmosphere
Chinese Optics Letters, 2019The digital micro-mirror device (DMD)-based optical switch has the advantages of high-speed channels reallocation, miniaturization, stability, and large capacity for short reach optical communication in the datacenter. However, thermal turbulent atmosphere in the datacenter would cause perturbations and channel crosstalk for the optical switch.

Beam wander of Gaussian-Schell model beams propagating through oceanic turbulence
Optics Communications, 2016Abstract For Gaussian-Schell model beams propagating in the isotropic turbulent ocean, theoretical expression of beam wander is derived based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel principle. The spatial coherence radius of spherical waves propagating in the paraxial channel of turbulent ocean including inner scale is also developed.

Beam wander of quantization beam in a non-Kolmogorov turbulent atmosphere
Optik, 2013Abstract The effects of the non-Kolmogorov parameter α of turbulent spectrum on beam wandering of quantization Gaussian light propagating through turbulent aberration channel and turbulent tilt-aberration channel are studied based on the model of the effective photon annihilation/creation operator.

Comparing Models and Approximations of Beam Wander
2024 14th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)Free space optical communication is a new and promising area with many desirable properties. However, there is no standardized way to model losses and effects of the atmosphere on the propagating beam. This necessitates comparing different models and approximations that are widely used in the literature. We calculate and compare various aspects of beam

Turbulence-induced beam wandering during femtosecond laser filamentation
Chinese Optics Letters, 2015The influence of air turbulence on the transverse wandering of a single femtosecond laser filament is studied by numerical simulation. The results show that the average transverse displacement of the single filament 〈δr〉 is proportional to the square root of turbulent structure constant and the relations between 〈δr〉 and the propagation distance can be

Determining C n 2 From Lidar Beam Wander
Optical Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere, 1990We are developing a remote sensing technique to determine the atmospheric C n 2 profile for ranges of up to 2.5 km using a modified backscatter lidar. Determination is made of the angle of arrival of backscattered laser light in the lidar system. C n 2 is calculated from these measurements using the standard weak turbulence model.

Fluctuations of intensity caused by laser beam wandering
Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1977A derivation is given of an approximate expression for the density distribution of the radiation power passing through a specified aperture which is illuminated by a laser beam subject to random displacements. The expression provides a good approximation to the exact distribution plotted graphically by means of a table of Q functions if the dimensions ...
