Chemical Crystallography at the Advanced Light Source
Chemical crystallography at synchrotrons was pioneered at the Daresbury SRS station 9.8. The chemical crystallography beamlines at the Advanced Light Source seek to follow that example, with orders of magnitude more flux than a lab source, and various in

Visualization of High-Intensity Laser–Matter Interactions in Virtual Reality and Web Browser
We present the Virtual Beamline (VBL) application, an interactive web-based platform for visualizing high-intensity laser–matter interactions using particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, with future potential for experimental data visualization.

Design of beamline optics for EUVL
The design of front-end collimating optics for extreme-ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) is reported. For EUVL, collimating optics consisting of a concave toroidal mirror and a convex toroidal mirror can achieve shorter optical path lengths than collimating optics consisting of two concave toroidal mirrors.

In this work, experimentally measured characteristics of a kilohertz laser-driven Cu plasma X-ray source that was recently commissioned at the ELI Beamlines facility are reported. The source can be driven either by an in-house developed high-contrast sub-

Automation of macromolecular crystallography beamlines
The production of three-dimensional crystallographic structural information of macromolecules can now be thought of as a pipeline which is being streamlined at every stage from protein cloning, expression and purification, through crystallisation to data collection and structure solution.

Generation of high order harmonics in quantum vacuum for 4π-dipole geometry
High-order harmonic (HOH) generation during the interaction of extremely intense electromagnetic (EM) waves in a quantum vacuum is studied within the Heisenberg–Euler formalism.

Physics of porous materials under extreme laser-generated conditions
Porous materials offer unique possibilities for the production of plasmas with controlled density profiles for experiments on laser–matter interaction. They are of growing relevance to many applications, such as inertial confinement fusion, fundamental ...

Real-time bremsstrahlung detector as a monitoring tool for laser–plasma proton acceleration
Real-time evaluation of laser-driven byproducts is crucial for state-of-the-art facilities operating at high repetition rates. This work presents real-time measurements of hard X-rays (bremsstrahlung radiation) generated from the interaction of high ...
