Technical note: Overprediction of dose with default PRESTA‐I boundary crossing in DOSXYZnrc and BEAMnrc

Medical Physics, 2007
Use of the PRESTA‐I (current default) boundary crossing algorithm for charged particles in DOSXYZnrc and BEAMnrc is shown to result in dose overprediction by up to 2.5% in photon and electron beams (less in high‐energy electron beams). The effect is most pronounced when charged particle equilibrium does not exist or when the phantom is not divided into

Study of unflattened photon beams shaped by multileaf collimator using BEAMnrc code

Journal of Radiotherapy in Practice, 2016
AbstractPurposeIn our study basic dosimetric properties of a flattening filter free 6 MV photon beam shaped by multileaf collimators (MLC) is examined using the Monte Carlo (MC) method. Methods and MaterialsBEAMnrc code was used to make a MC simulation model for 6 MV photon beam based on Varian Clinic 600 unique performance linac, operated with and ...

SU‐FF‐I‐25: Feasibility of Estimating Multidetector CT Dose Using BEAMnrc Code

Medical Physics, 2007
Purpose: Most of Monte Carlo based methods estimating radiation dose in computed tomography (CT) were performed using MCNP or EGS codes. The BEAMnrc code, one of Monte Carlo codes, was usually used to simulate radiation therapy accelerators, and has fine graphic interfaces and various component modules.

SU‐E‐J‐35: A Model for the Simulation of EPID Measurements in the BeamNRC Monte Carlo Package

Medical Physics, 2012
Purpose: The intent of this study was to create a virtual model of a simple Electronic Portal Image Device (EPID) in the BeamNRC Monte Carlo package which would simulate EPID measurements taken in vivo. Methods: A typical accelerator was created in the BeamNRC software using published 6MV spectra from Mohan, et. al.

Monte Carlo simulation of Varian Linac for 6 MV photon beam with BEAMnrc code

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2018
Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the initial electron beam parameters on the absorbed dose distribution calculated with EGSnrc Monte Carlo code, for 6 MV photon beam. A proposed methodology for benchmarking the BEAMnrc model of Varian Linac has been used.

Study of the dosimetric properties of an unflattened 6-MV photon beam by using the BEAMnrc code

Journal of the Korean Physical Society, 2016
This study investigated the basic dosimetric properties of a Flattening-filter-free 6-MV photon beam based on the unique performance model of the Varian Clinic 600 linac operated with and without a flattening filter. Dosimetric features, including the central-axis absorbed dose, the beam profiles and the photon and electron fluences were calculated for

SU‐FF‐T‐341: New BEAMnrc Tools for Photon and Electron Beam Model Analysis

Medical Physics, 2006
Purpose: Accurate radiotherapy planning requires precise and adaptable beam models. A beam model must be able to reproduce the full range of output on a clinical accelerator if a 2%/2mm or better accuracy goal is to be met. Most beam models have not been able to consistently meet this goal.

Po‐Poster ‐ 08: Comparison of two methods for commissioning BEAMnrc Elekta SL25 accelerator model

Medical Physics, 2005
Incident electron beam parameters of Monte Carlo linear accelerator model are typically determined by comparing computed profiles and depth‐dose curves with measurements. Several variations have been suggested in literature: Sheikh 2002 used kerma equivalent off‐axis factors while van der Zee 1999 used cross profiles in large water phantom.

Spiral computed tomography phase-space source model in the BEAMnrc/EGSnrc Monte Carlo system: implementation and validation

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2013
Currently, the BEAMnrc/EGSnrc Monte Carlo (MC) system does not provide a spiral CT source model for the simulation of spiral CT scanning. We developed and validated a spiral CT phase-space source model in the BEAMnrc/EGSnrc system. The spiral phase-space source model was implemented in the DOSXYZnrc user code of the BEAMnrc/EGSnrc system by analyzing ...
