Wilderness and Environmental Medicine, 1990Injuries sustained from bear attacks are often severe or fatal. Victims may require hospitalization and/or surgical debridement. Occasionally, serial debridements and reconstructive surgery are necessary. This study identifies aerobic oral flora in black bears ( Ursus americanus) and provides guidelines for antimicrobial prophylaxis of these wounds.
