Comparative Analysis of the Microstructure and Tribological Behaviors of Ni-, Fe-, and Co-Based Plasma Cladding Coatings

open access: yesMetals
Nickel-, iron-, and cobalt-based alloy coatings were fabricated on the surface of U75V steel utilizing plasma cladding technology. This study investigates the microstructure, mechanical properties, and tribological performance of the coatings.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Validation of a finite-element model of a 5 m three-row roller wind turbine blade bearing [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science
Large rolling bearings with complex interfaces need reliable finite-element (FE) models to determine the load distribution and deformation behavior. To ensure the accuracy of the results, it is important to validate the models against experimental data ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Fault Feature Extraction and Diagnosis of Rolling Bearings Based on Enhanced Complementary Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise and Statistical Time-Domain Features

open access: yesSensors, 2019
In this paper, a novel method is proposed to enhance the accuracy of fault diagnosis for rolling bearings. First, an enhanced complementary empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (ECEEMDAN) method is proposed by determining two critical ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Load case selection for finite-element simulations of wind turbine pitch bearings and hubs [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science
Finite-element simulations of large rolling bearings and structural parts are an indispensable tool in the design of wind turbines. Unlike simpler structures or smaller bearings in rigid environments where analytical formulas suffice, wind turbine ...

Bearing Black [PDF]

open access: yesJournal for Social Action in Counseling & Psychology, 2013
In this essay I critically examine the idea of race in light of the killing of Trayvon Martin, an African-American unarmed teenager, in Florida in February 2012. I utilize ideas from liberation psychology, including psychic colonization, and depth psychology, including cultural complex, to explore the racialized black as a colonized, traumatized other.
