Mineral deposition in current meter bearings
Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1975Abstract Carbonate deposits (siderite, aragonite and calcite) have been identified within current meter bearings. These deposits were observed to inhibit and even prevent the response of sensors mounted on the bearings. The mechanism of precipitation of these minerals is described, with particular reference to the increased reaction rate found when ...

Bearing currents in wind turbine generators
Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2013Increasing the availability of multi-megawatt wind turbines (WT) is necessary if the cost of energy generated by wind is to be reduced. It has been found that WT generator bearings have a surprisingly high failure rate, with failures happening too early to be due to classical rolling contact fatigue.

Application of Static Charge Dissipation to Mitigate Electric Discharge Bearing Currents
Today, the physical cause-and-effect chains of inverter-induced high-frequency bearing currents have been well understood, but little has been known on not only theoretically possible, but also cost-effective mitigation techniques for a certain drive ...

Current limits of PTFE in sliding bearings
IABSE Reports, 2010<p>The European standard EN 1337 on bridge bearings is supported by experimental studies dating to the ‘70s and the ‘80s, which are not suitable to account for recent issues relevant to operations of steel–PTFE bridge bearings under extreme conditions, like high environment temperatures or high velocities of sliding.

Research of bearing voltage and bearing current in induction motor drive system
2016 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (APEMC), 2016To solve bearing electric corrosion of motor drive system, the mechanism of bearing voltage and bearing current is studied. To validate the mechanism, the motor driven by high frequency PWM pulse system is established. The model of drive system based on MATLAB/SIMULINK is introduced.

Current Practice in Journal Bearings
1969It is advantageous from the production point of view for a manufacturer to use one standard design of journal bearing, made in a small number of standard sizes. The degree of standardization attained is, however, limited by other considerations. The economic benefits of reduction of machine dimensions and of reduction of bearing loss justify the use of

Traction Motor Bearing Failures Due to Bearing Currents in Electric Locomotives
2019 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (ITEC), 2019This paper is concerned with the analysis, measurement and mitigation methods for bearing current related bearing failures in inverter supplied electric locomotive traction motors. The motivation for the study is a record of premature bearing failures observed in AC traction motors in Indian Railways following a transition from GTO converters to IGBT ...

The current state of bearing surfaces in total hip replacement
The Bone & Joint Journal, 2014We reviewed the literature on the currently available choices of bearing surface in total hip replacement (THR). We present a detailed description of the properties of articulating surfaces review the understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of existing bearing couples.

Evaluation of Eddy-Current Effects on Diamagnetic Bearings for Microsystems
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2009Diamagnetic materials could be utilized with permanent magnets to offer a simple passive solution to micro bearings as a result of scale reduction. In this paper, we investigate the eddy-current effect on the performance of diamagnetic bearings. Due to the good electrical conductivity of some of diamagnetic materials or the intentionally introduced ...

Eddy current sizing of case depth in bearing components
NDT International, 1987Encircling eddy current coil techniques are being used for the nondestructive evaluation of case depth in bearing components (Figure 1). These techniques, because of their ability to measure only bulk properties in test specimens, lack the necessary spatial resolution to detect local variations in case depth leading to eddy current imaging of the case ...
