Simple Model for a Magnetic Bearing System Operating on the Auxiliary Bearing

Volume 4: Turbo Expo 2005, 2005
The present work studies the behavior of a magnetic bearing supported rotor when the flow of electric current to the magnetic actuator is suppressed In this condition the rotor is supported by the auxiliary bearing, which has looseness with the rotor, generating a series of impacts between these components.

Modeling and Identification of Gas Journal Bearings: Self-Acting Gas Bearing Results

Journal of Tribology, 2002
A mathematical model is elaborated with analytical relations for transfer functions and for gas-film stiffness and damping coefficients for self-acting and externally pressurized gas journal bearings with four supply orifices positioned at the center plane for rotating shaft displacements near the bearing center.

Modeling and Identification of Gas Journal Bearings: Externally Pressurized Gas Bearing Results

Journal of Tribology, 2004
Static and dynamic characteristics of externally pressurized gas journal bearings with four supply orifices positioned at the central cross section for rotating shaft displacements near the bearing center are investigated. Results for transfer functions and for gas-film coefficients derived using the developed mathematical model are compared with the ...

Implementation of the 'Information Bearing Capability Model' for Databases

2010 2nd International Workshop on Database Technology and Applications, 2010
To tackle the capability of a data schema of bearing information, a model for the definition and exploitation of what we call the 'Information Bearing Capability' of a database (IBC Model for short) model has been proposed. In this paper, we present the notion of IBC with a brief justification.

Modelling of ball bearings in spacecraft

Tribology International, 1990
Abstract The ball bearing continues to find wide application in spacecraft. This paper discusses how far bearing performance may be estimated from numerical models. Since, in the vacuum of space, solid lubrication has distinct advantages over liquid lubrication, Coulombic friction is often the only cause of rolling resistance in the bearing.

Modeling and simulation of centerless grinding of ball bearings

Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, 2006
Abstract A dynamic analysis of the process of modification of surface topography of a ball bearing during the grinding process using bond graph techniques has been attempted. Such modification results from material removal by abrasion. The position of any point of the surface profile, with respect to a nominal subcutaneous surface, has been expressed

Modeling and control of a magnetic bearing actuated beam

Proceedings of the 2000 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.00CH36334), 2000
Presents a nonlinear coordinate transformation for a magnetic bearing system. The construction of this coordinate transformation follows a strict mathematical procedure. Once in the new coordinate system, a unique feedback linearization law exists which has several practical properties: the linearizing feedback is guaranteed regular, the resulting ...

Updating Rotor-Bearing Finite Element Models

Volume 1B: 16th Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 1997
Abstract In this paper, the possibility of updating the finite element model of a rotor-bearing system by estimating the bearing stiffness and damping coefficients from a few measured Frequency Response Functions using a Genetic Algorithm is investigated. The issues of identifiability and parameters estimation errors, computational costs

A Numerical Model to Predict Damaged Bearing Vibrations

Journal of Vibration and Control, 2007
This work aims to develop the theoretical fundamentals and numerical details of new software, dedicated to the simulation of the dynamic behavior of rotating ball bearings in the presence of localized surface defects. In this article, the generation of vibration by a point defect in a rolling element bearing is modeled as a function of the rotation of ...

Modeling and control design for a controllable bearing system

Proceedings of the 39th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. No.00CH37187), 2002
This paper introduces the application of a linear-quadratic regulator to a controllable tilting-pad bearing system to reduce the vibration in a rotating machine. This application first requires a nonlinear transient simulation of the bearing to determine the stiffness and damping coefficients associated with each pad of the bearing at a given ...
