Metabolic reprogramming of murine cardiomyocytes during autophagy requires the extracellular nutrient sensor decorin. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The extracellular matrix is a master regulator of tissue homeostasis in health and disease. Here we examined how the small, leucine-rich, extracellular matrix proteoglycan decorin regulates cardiomyocyte metabolism during fasting in vivo.

Saikosaponin A Inhibits Migration/Invasion and Triggers Cell‐Cycle Arrest and Autophagy‐Induced Cell Death in HCT116 Cells and In Vivo

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 3, May 2026.
Saikosaponin A from Radix Bupleuri inhibited colorectal cancer HCT116 cells with low toxicity. SSA induced S/G2‐M cell cycle arrest and triggered autophagy via mTOR inhibition. SSA suppressed metastasis by blocking PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. SSA significantly reduced tumor growth without apparent toxicity.

The relationship between the cannabinoids and cardiac remodelling: A comprehensive review of pivotal mechanisms and emerging evidence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 9, Page 1747-1778, May 2026.
Cardiac remodelling and fibrosis after myocardial infarction or during chronic diseases, such as arterial and pulmonary hypertension or diabetes mellitus, continue to be the more important prognostic factors in determining survival, and so the search for effective anti‐fibrotic interventions is an important target for research and therapy in cardiology.

Immunohistochemical and bioinformatics analysis of the placental BCL-2 and Beclin-1 expressions in preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Background This study aimed to examine the alterations in apoptosis and autophagy in placental tissues from normal pregnancies compared to those affected by preeclampsia (PE) and HELLP (haemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets) syndrome.

Crystal structure of the Bcl-XL-Beclin 1 peptide complex: Beclin 1 is a novel BH3-only protein.

open access: yesThe Journal of biological chemistry, 2007
Bcl-2 family proteins are key regulators of apoptosis and have recently been shown to modulate autophagy. The tumor suppressor Beclin 1 has been proposed to coordinate both apoptosis and autophagy through direct interaction with anti-apoptotic family members Bcl-2 and/or Bcl-X(L).

Characterization of apoptosis and autophagy through Bcl-2 and Beclin-1 immunoexpression in gestational trophoblastic disease

open access: yesIranian Journal of Reproductive Medicine, 2015
Background: The pathogenesis of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) is not clearly known. Objective: In this study, immunoexpression of proteins Bcl-2 and Beclin-1 in trophoblastic lesions and normal trophoblastic tissue was conducted to study the ...
