Erosion of a granular bed driven by laminar fluid flow

open access: yes, 2008
Motivated by examples of erosive incision of channels in sand, we investigate the motion of individual grains in a granular bed driven by a laminar fluid to give us new insights into the relationship between hydrodynamic stress and surface granular flow.

Harnessing Non‐Covalent Protein–Protein Interaction Domains for Production of Biocatalytic Materials Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Non‐covalent protein–protein interactions mediated by SH3, PDZ, or GBD domains enable the self‐assembly of stable and biocatalytically active hydrogel materials. These soft materials can be processed into monodisperse foams that, once dried, exhibit enhanced mechanical stability and activity and are easily integrated into microstructured flow ...

A Smart Bio‐Battery Facilitates Diabetic Bone Defect Repair Via Inducing Macrophage Reprogramming and Synergistically Modulating Bone Remodeling Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research presents a novel implantable bio‐battery, GF‐OsG, tailored for diabetic bone repair. GF‐OsG generates microcurrents in high‐glucose conditions to enhance vascularization, shift macrophages to the M2 phenotype, and regulate immune responses.

Colloidal Crack Sintering Lithography for Light‐Induced Patterning of Particle Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Colloidal crack sintering lithography (CCSL) is a microfabrication technique that uses light‐induced photothermal heating to trigger sintering and controlled cracking in polymer colloidal assemblies. Local structural changes generate microchannels and patterns, enabling direct writing of diverse topographic motifs.

Transcriptomic evidence of erythropoietic adaptation from the International Space Station and from an Earth-based space analog

open access: yesnpj Microgravity
Space anemia affects astronauts and the underlying molecular alterations remain unknown. We evaluated the response of erythropoiesis-modulating genes to spaceflight through the analysis of leukocyte transcriptomes from astronauts during long-duration ...

Focal Gray Matter Plasticity as a Function of Long Duration Head-down Tilt Bed Rest [PDF]

open access: yes
Long duration spaceflight (i.e., > or = 22 days) has been associated with changes in sensorimotor systems, resulting in difficulties that astronauts experience with posture control, locomotion, and manual control.
