Bed-Shear Stress in Turbulent Wave-Current Boundary Layers [PDF]
An approach for calculating turbulent flows in a wave-current boundary layer over a slowly varying bed is presented. Waves are periodic in time with several harmonics. In this paper, we adopt a time invariant eddy viscosity model, in which the eddy viscosity is linearly proportional to the distance from the bed.

Vertical structure of near-bed cross-shore flow velocities in the swash zone of a dissipative beach [PDF]
Cross-shore velocity profiles are measured at 0.001m vertical resolution and at 100Hz over the lower 0.02-0.07m of the water column in the mid swash zone on a dissipative, macrotidal beach.

Critical conditions of bed sediment entrainment due to debris flow [PDF]
The present study describes entrainment characteristics of bed material into debris flow, based on flume tests, numerical and dimensional analyses. Flume tests are conducted to investigate influences of bed sediment size on erosion rate by supplying ...

Growth of Debris Flows by Soil Bed Erosion: Effects of Frictional and Hydrodynamic Shear Stresses [PDF]
Debris flows are complex solid-fluid mixtures, which travel downslope under the influence of gravity. The destructive potential of a debris flow is governed by its volume and speed, both of which can be significantly enhanced by the erosion of soil bed ...

Shear stress in smooth trapezoidal channel [PDF]
Laboratory experiments were conducted in smooth trapezoidal channel with side slope 1:1 to measure boundary force and shear stress. Preston tube is used to estimate contribution of wall and bed shear stresses.

Quantification of bed-load transport over dunes
There is disagreement in the literature as to whether a shear stress-based approach can be used to accurately predict sediment transport over dunes. This study aims to address this disagreement.

Lateral sediment sources and knickzones as controls on spatio-temporal variations of sediment transport in an Alpine river [PDF]
Modern mixed alluvial-bedrock channels in mountainous areas provide natural laboratories for understanding the time scales at which coarse-grained material has been entrained and transported from their sources to the adjacent sedimentary sink, where ...
