Beech forests and climate change

2007

Canopy-Dynamics in Beech Forests

1997
Canopy cover is important during the development of a beech forest. All beech species studied here are shade tolerant: they survive in the shade, and they respond to changes in the light level (Chapter 5). Shade favors beech over most other dominant deciduous broad-leaved trees, which are less shade tolerant.

The Beech Forests of Wisconsin: Changes in Forest Composition and the Nature of the Beech Border

Ecology, 1956
The forests of Wisconsin in which beech (Fagus grandifolia Ehrh.) is a component are of particular interest because of the limitation of this species to the eastern part of the state. Although touched upon in several earlier studies, these forests have not been examined throughout their range in the state.

Forest edge and carabid diversity in a Carpathian beech forest

Community Ecology, 2006
Diversity relationships of carabids in forest edges and the neighbouring forest interior and the surrounding grassland were studied. Samples were taken along three replicated forest-grassland transects using pitfall traps in the Varghis-valley (Harghita County, Romania). The study revealed significant edge effect on the carabids.

Old-growth beech forests in Serbia

2018
Old-growth forests play an important role in getting an insight into processes that occur in nature, and consequently in the implementation of those insights through close-to-nature forest management. A segment of familiarity with the above processes is knowledge of the structural and production characteristics of the investigated old-growth forests ...
