Viral and Host Factors Involved in Host Gain and Host Loss by Tomato Leaf Curl Begomoviruses in Tomato and Cucumbers. [PDF]
Begomoviruses have jumped hosts between tomatoes and cucumbers, and we found that a short region (transcriptional activator and replication enhancer proteins, TrAp and REn) of tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus is mainly responsible for host jump. ABSTRACT Begomoviruses transmitted by whiteflies cause severe crop losses worldwide.

Commodity risk assessment of <i>Lonicera ligustrina</i> var. <i>pileata</i>, <i>Lonicera ligustrina</i> var. <i>yunnanensis</i> and <i>Lonicera periclymenum</i> plants from the UK. [PDF]
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by (a) rooted plants in pots and (b) bare root ...

A TIR-NLR gene from Arabidopsis Pla-1 confers resistance to geminivirus infection. [PDF]
SUMMARY Geminiviruses are single‐stranded DNA viruses that infect many plant species and cause serious losses in agronomically important crops. An earlier study showed that the Arabidopsis thaliana ecotype Pla‐1 is resistant to infection by diverse geminivirus species and mapped the major resistance locus Geminivirus Resistance of Pla‐1 1 (GRP1) to ...

Gene Overlapping as a Modulator of Begomovirus Evolution [PDF]
In RNA viruses, which have high mutation—and fast evolutionary— rates, gene overlapping (i.e., genomic regions that encode more than one protein) is a major factor controlling mutational load and therefore the virus evolvability. Although DNA viruses use host high-fidelity polymerases for their replication, and therefore should have lower mutation ...

Begomovirus Caboniensis: a New Bipartite Begomovirus Isolated From Cnidoscolus Urens in Brazil
Abstract A novel bipartite begomovirus infecting Cnidoscolus urens (Euphorbiaceae) from Pernambuco State, Brazil has been characterized. The complete DNA-A (2657 to 2692 nt) and DNA-B (2622 nt) components of the viral isolates showed a typical genome organization of New World bipartite begomoviruses.
