Two‐Photon Polymerized Microvascular Environments for Multicellular Modeling of the Blood–Brain Tumor Barrier

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Modeling the blood–brain tumor barrier is challenging due to complex interactions between brain microvasculature and glioma cells. We present two‐photon polymerized 3D micro‐porous capillary‐like structures that support endothelial alignment, cytoskeletal organization, and pericyte‐endothelial‐glioma tri‐cultures.

Modelling and analysis of wheel replacement and restoration [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
"Given this system with its inherent constraints, what is the relationship between the stock of spare wheelsets on hand and the probability of not having a wheelset of the correct size on hand to effect a wheel change?

Projector‐Induced Waveguide Encoded Lattices (ProWELs) with Optical Functionality: From Enhanced Fields of View (FOV) to 3D Data Encoding

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We describe the fabrication of 3D polymeric waveguide architectures with tunability of waveguide diameter, lattice symmetry and long and short‐range order using an inexpensive (< $400 CAD) digital light projector. We demonstrate that Projector induced Waveguide Encoded Lattices (ProWELs) possess advanced functionality including tuneable Fields of View (

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Developing an Evidence- and Theory-Informed Mother-Daughter mHealth Intervention Prototype Targeting Physical Activity in Preteen Girls of Low Socioeconomic Position: Multiphase Co-Design Study

open access: yesJMIR Pediatrics and Parenting
BackgroundPreteen girls of lower socioeconomic position are at increased risk of physical inactivity. Parental support, particularly from mothers, is positively correlated with girls’ physical activity levels. Consequently, family-

The influence of Vehicle Dynamics Control System on the Occupant’s Dynamic response during a Vehicle collision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper aims to apply a vehicle dynamics control system to mitigate a vehicle collision and to study the effects of this systems on the kinematic behaviour of the vehicle's occupant. A unique three-degree-of-freedom vehicle dynamics-crash mathematical

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Pregnant women’s views on how to promote the use of a decision aid for Down syndrome prenatal screening: a theory-informed qualitative study

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2018
Background For pregnant women and their partners, the decision to undergo Down syndrome prenatal screening is difficult. Patient decision aids (PtDA) can help them make an informed decision.
