Belief Function Robustness in Estimation [PDF]
We consider the case in which the available knowledge does not allow to specify a precise probabilistic model for the prior and/or likelihood in statistical estimation. We assume that this imprecision can be represented by belief functions. Thus, we exploit the mathematical structure of belief functions and their equivalent representation in terms of ...

On the Orthogonal Projection of a Belief Function [PDF]
In this paper we study a new probability associated with any given belief function b, i.e. the orthogonal projection π[b] of b onto the probability simplex P. We provide an interpretation of π[b] in terms of a redistribution process in which the mass of each focal element is equally distributed among its subsets, establishing an interesting analogy ...

Consonant approximations of belief functions
Based on a recently introduced definition of inclusion between random sets, a general notion of approximation of a belief function by some other set-function is introduced. Viewing a fuzzy set as a consonant random set, it is shown how to construct fuzzy sets that may act as approximations of belief functions. Two kinds of approximations are considered:

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A Model of Minimal Probabilistic Belief Revision [PDF]
A probabilistic belief revision function assigns to every initial probabilistic belief and every observable event some revised probabilistic belief that only attaches positive probability to states in this event.

Distributed combination of belief functions
Abstract We consider the problem of combining belief functions in a situation where pieces of evidence are held by agents at the node of a communication network, and each agent can only exchange information with its neighbors. Using the concept of weight of evidence, we propose distributed implementations of Dempster’s rule and the cautious rule ...

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
