Urbanisation Restructures but Does Not Reduce Freshwater Pond Biodiversity

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Urbanisation is a dominant driver of landscape change leading to widespread displacement, degradation and fragmentation of habitat for native species and numerous studies have documented loss of biodiversity in response. However, most studies focus on a small range of taxa (e.g., vertebrates, plants), leaving many other groups poorly ...

First Detection of Mycobacterium ulcerans DNA in Environmental Samples from South America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The occurrences of many environmentally-persistent and zoonotic infections are driven by ecosystem changes, which in turn are underpinned by land-use modifications that alter the governance of pathogen, biodiversity and human interactions.

Feeding ecology of an Amazonian electric knifefish under altered flood‐pulse dynamics caused by hydroelectric damming

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 108, Issue 6, Page 1778-1787, June 2026.
Abstract This study evaluated the effects of the controlled flood pulse on diet composition, trophic niche breadth and feeding intensity of Archolaemus janeae, an electric knifefish species with a restricted distribution in the Amazon Basin. Monthly samples were collected from December 2020 to November 2021 in the Volta Grande stretch of the Xingu ...

Biochemical Responses of Anopheles spp. Larvae to a Novel Brazilian BR101 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Formulation: Oxidative Stress, Detoxification Enzymes, and Safety for Nontarget Notonectidae and Gerridae Aquatic Insects

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 2, February 2026.
Bti BR101 exhibits strong larvicidal activity against Anopheles larvae spp., with dose‐dependent mortality and LC50 of 3.13 µg/mL. Bti increases ROS, lipid and protein oxidation, and activates antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx) and detoxification pathways (MFO and esterases), indicating moderate oxidative stress.

Sex Chromosome Polymorphism in a Species of Belostoma (Belostomatidae, Heteroptera) [PDF]

open access: yesHereditas, 2004
