Cricket antennae shorten when bending (Acheta domesticus L.) [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
Insect antennae are important mechanosensory and chemosensory organs. Insect appendages, such as antennae, are encased in a cuticular exoskeleton and are thought to bend only between segments or subsegments where the cuticle is thinner, more flexible, or

On the continuity of bending [PDF]

open access: yesGeometry & Topology Monographs, 1998
We examine the dependence of the deformation obtained by bending quasi-Fuchsian structures on the bending lamination. We show that when we consider bending quasi-Fuchsian structures on a closed surface, the conditions obtained by Epstein and Marden to ...

Bending as Counterspeech

open access: yesEthical Theory and Moral Practice, 2022
AbstractIn this paper, we identify and examine an overlooked strategy to counter bigoted speech on the spot. Such a strategy we call ‘bending’. To ‘bend’, in our sense, is to deliberately give a distorted response to a speaker’s harmful move – precisely, an ameliorative response, which may turn that move into a different, less harmful, contribution. To

Analysis on Bending Performance of the Electro-Textile Antennas With Bandwidth Enhancement for Wearable Tracking Application

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Frequency detuning issues in antenna operation due to structural deformation have become a concern, especially for flexible devices such as a textile antenna.

Bending of sparklers [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Physics, 2014
A new equation is proposed to explain the curvature of spent sparklers. We found the state of a segment of the sparkler to depend strongly on the state of its spent segments. The equation is nearly able to produce the sparkler shape for a range of lengths and for all elevation angles.

Methods of analysis of a reinforced concrete section under bending with axial force in the post-yield range

open access: yesBudownictwo i Architektura, 2014
Predicting the behaviour of plastic hinges subjected to large inelastic deformations caused by extreme loads such as earthquakes plays an important role in assessing maximum stable deformation capacities of framed concrete structures. This paper presents

Foxp3 Molecular Dynamics in Treg in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Since the identification of the regulatory T-cell (Treg)-associated transcription factor Foxp3, there have been intensive research efforts to understand its biology and roles in maintaining immune homeostasis. It is well established that thymic selection

Dynamic Bending of an Infinite Electromagnetoelastic Rod [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия Саратовского университета. Новая серия. Серия Математика. Механика. Информатика, 2020
The problem of non-stationary bending of an infinite electromagnetoelastic rod is considered. It is assumed that the material of the rod is a homogeneous isotropic conductor. The closed-form system of process equations is constructed under the assumption
