Nonlinear Negative Refraction by Difference Frequency Generation
Negative refraction has attracted much interest for its promising capability in imaging applications. Such an effect can be implemented by negative index meta-materials, however, which are usually accompanied by high loss and demanding fabrication ...

Multiple-cladding fibers with reduced bend loss
We demonstrate that a highly bend-resistant fiber can be realized. It is shown theoretically that, by introducing both depressed and elevated rings into the cladding, bending loss can be reduced significantly. A fiber based on this design has been fabricated and characterized as a first step toward achieving this goal.

Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

A ultra-wideband highly-birefringent Bragg layered photonic bandgap fiber (BL-PBGF) with concave-index cladding is proposed and demonstrated, by incorporating PBG effect with Bragg multilayers for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The proposed

Bending force of LLDPE monofilaments at high temperatures measured in DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer) [PDF]
The bending force of monofilaments used as pile layer in artificial turf football fields is a very important property due to the strong relation with the performance of the entire system being the force that mostly influences the deformation of ...

Bend loss in all-solid bandgap fibres
Experimental measurements of all-solid photonic bandgap fibres with an array of high-index rods in a low-index background revealed an unexpected variation of bend loss across different bandgaps. This behaviour was confirmed by calculations of photonic band structure, and explained with reference to the differing field distributions of the modes of the ...

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Efficient Coupling between Dielectric-Loaded Plasmonic and Silicon Photonic Waveguides [PDF]
The realization of practical on-chip plasmonic devices will require efficient coupling of light into and out of surface plasmon waveguides over short length scales.

Improved arrayed-waveguide-grating layout avoiding systematic phase errors [PDF]
We present a detailed description of an improved arrayed-waveguide-grating (AWG) layout for both, low and high diffraction orders. The novel layout presents identical bends across the entire array; in this way systematic phase errors arising from ...
