Hanging cables with small bending stiffness

Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 1993
The problem of a cable suspended between two fixed points is investigated. The cable is not subjected to any external forces other than gravity and has a small bending stiffness. The singular perturbations of tensile solutions of the string model without resistance to bending are studied. The uniqueness of tensile solution is established.

A comparison of forefoot stiffness in running and running shoe bending stiffness

Journal of Biomechanics, 2005
This study characterizes the stiffness of the human forefoot during running. The forefoot stiffness, defined as the ratio of ground reaction moment to angular deflection of the metatarsophalangeal joint, is measured for subjects running barefoot. The joint deflection is obtained from video data, while the ground reaction moment is obtained from force ...

Vibration of elevator cables with small bending stiffness

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2002
The effects of bending stiffness and boundary conditions on the lateral vibration of the stationary and moving hoist cables are investigated. The role of the trial functions in the approximate methods is examined. The optimal stiffness and damping coefficient of the suspension of the car against its guide rails are identified for the moving cable.

BENDING STIFFNESS OF ALUMINIUM FOAMS

Rad Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti. Tehničke znanosti, 2010
The basic manufacturing processes of cellular materials have been briefly noted as well as the metal foam properties. The most widely used are the aluminium foams due to the following properties: very good insulation (thermal insulation and sound absorption), low density (mass), high specific rigidity in sandwich structures, very good impact damping ...

Decreased Ulnar Bending Stiffness in Osteoporotic Caucasian Women

Journal of Clinical Densitometry, 1999
Mechanical response tissue analysis (MRTA) is a noninvasive measure of ulnar bending stiffness in vivo. It is unique in that the mechanical response to the lower range of vibrational frequencies is used to determine the average cross-sectional bending stiffness. The objective of this study was to compare ulnar bending stiffness among normal, osteopenic,

Theoretical Calculation of Bending Stiffness of Alveolar Wall

The Journal of Membrane Biology, 2013
The bending stiffness of the alveolar wall is theoretically analyzed in this study through analytical modeling. First, the alveolar wall facet and its characteristics were geometrically simplified and then modeled using known physical laws. Bending stiffness is shown to be dependent on alveolar wall thickness, density, Poisson's ratio and speed of the ...

Effective bending stiffness of carbon nanotubes

Physical Review B, 2000
Owing to their single atom-layer structure, actual bending stiffness of single-walled carbon nanotubes is much lower than that given by the elastic shell model if the commonly defined representative thickness is used. In this paper, it is proposed that the effective bending stiffness of single-walled nanotubes should be regarded as an independent ...

Bending stiffness of an inflated cylindrical cantilever beam.

AIAA Journal, 1969
The object of this investigation is to determine the effect of finite inflation on the subsequent response of a circular cylindrical cantilever to bending loads. The bending stiffness of the beam is used to measure the response to loading after inflation.
