Tuning Synthetic Semiflexible Networks by Bending Stiffness [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
The mechanics of complex soft matter often cannot be understood in the classical physical frame of flexible polymers or rigid rods. The underlying constituents are semiflexible polymers, whose finite bending stiffness ($κ$) leads to non-trivial mechanical responses. A natural model for such polymers is the protein actin.

Influence of core spacing on bending properties of AlSi10Mg lattice sandwich panel formed by selective laser melting

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials, 2022
The light-weight and high-stiffness metal lattice sandwich structure formed by selective laser melting has an important application prospect in aerospace, military and other fields.

Characterization of ply mixing rules for non-symmetric forms of fully orthotropic laminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Stacking sequence listings are presented for fully orthotropic angle-ply laminates, with up to 21 plies, together with rules for mixing these sequences to form laminates containing any number of plies.

Effect of Rotor Geometry on Bending Stiffness Variation [PDF]

open access: yesMachines, 2021
Bending stiffness variation (BSV) is a common problem causing vibration in large rotating machinery. BSV describes lateral bending stiffness and its variation as a function of the rotational angle. It has been observed that BSV causes excitation exactly twice per revolution, which leads to vibration problems, especially at half critical speed.

Vibration and buckling of thin-walled composite I-beams with arbitrary lay-ups under axial loads and end moments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A finite element model with seven degrees of freedom per node is developed to study vibration and buckling of thin-walled composite I-beams with arbitrary lay-ups under constant axial loads and equal end moments.

Reinforcement of wood with natural fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper describes an experimental programme which examines the reinforcement in flexure of timber beams with composite materials based on natural fibers in the form of fabrics made from hemp, flax, basalt and bamboo fibers.

Post-buckling behaviour of slender structures with a bi-linear bending moment-curvature relationship [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Certain classes of slender structures of complex cross-section or fabricated from specialised materials can exhibit a bi-linear bending moment–curvature relationship that has a strong influence on their global structural behaviour.

Bending Stiffness of the Lumbar Spine Subjected to Posteroanterior Manipulative Force [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This study measured the bending stiffness of the spine when it is subjected to posteroanterior mobilization force. The lumbar spine was modeled as an initially curved beam column supported over the rib cage and the pelvis.
