Bending strength of silica glass
Journal of Materials Science, 2000Tensile and bending tests are useful to characterize the mechanical behavior of ceramics. Theoretical comparisons between results of both tests are usually done based on Weibull statistics. In previous experiments on borosilicate glass, no agreement was found between experimental and theoretical values of the ratio of the maximum bending and tensile ...

Tibia Bending: Strength and Response
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1985<div class="htmlview paragraph">Unembalmed human tibias were subjected to static and dynamic three-point bending tests using the Wayne State Translational Impactor. Simple supports potted to the bone near the proximal and distal epiphyses were attached to force transducers and load was applied at midspan by a 32-kg impactor that had a rigid 25-mm

Incremental Bending of Ultra-High-Strength Steels
Key Engineering Materials, 2011Utilisation of ultra-high-strength steels (UHS) has increased, particularly in the automotive industry. By using these materials vehicle structures can be lightened. However, one of the problems of UHS is weak formability. Materials fracture easily with small bending radii and the minimum bending radii are rather large.

Bend Strength versus Tensile Strength of Fiber‐Reinforced Ceramics
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1994The bending strength of fiber‐reinforced glasses and ceramics is often observed to be higher than their tensile strength; the difference varies, however, from one material to another. To gain an understanding of the relationship between these two measure of strength, we have carried out an analysis of bending which accounts for the deviations from ...

Bend strength of graphite under pressure
Carbon, 1986Abstract The 4-point bend strength and strain to fracture at room temperature have been measured in three graphites at atmospheric pressure and at a gas pressure of 600 psi (4.14 MPa). The surface fracture stress was reduced under pressure by between 2 and 7%, and the fracture strain was reduced by between 13 and 18%.

Strength of Plate Girders in Bending
Journal of the Structural Division, 1961Investigation of welded plate girders to determine static carrying capacity of transversely stiffened plate girders was conducted at Lehigh Univ; theoretical considerations of study are presented; paper 2913 (Aug) covers bending strength, paper 2967 (Oct) covers shear strength and paper 2968 (Oct) covers interaction between bending and shear. Bending Fatigue Strength of WAAM Ultra-High-Strength Steel
Key Engineering MaterialsThis study investigates the bending fatigue strength of ultra-high-strength steel (UHS) steel manufactured using wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology. Hardness evaluations, conducted in the built direction, demonstrated a remarkable consistency with an average hardness of approximately 292 HV throughout the entire deposited component ...

ZERODUR - bending strength: review of achievements
Optomechanical Engineering 2017, 2017Increased demand for using the glass ceramic ZERODUR® with high mechanical loads called for strength data based on larger statistical samples. Design calculations for failure probability target value below 1: 100 000 cannot be made reliable with parameters derived from 20 specimen samples.
