Bending strength of silica glass
Journal of Materials Science, 2000Tensile and bending tests are useful to characterize the mechanical behavior of ceramics. Theoretical comparisons between results of both tests are usually done based on Weibull statistics. In previous experiments on borosilicate glass, no agreement was found between experimental and theoretical values of the ratio of the maximum bending and tensile ...

Strength of Plate Girders in Bending
Journal of the Structural Division, 1961Investigation of welded plate girders to determine static carrying capacity of transversely stiffened plate girders was conducted at Lehigh Univ; theoretical considerations of study are presented; paper 2913 (Aug) covers bending strength, paper 2967 (Oct) covers shear strength and paper 2968 (Oct) covers interaction between bending and shear. Strength of a Pipe Mitred Bend
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1970Single and multiple mitred bends are analyzed for stress and deformation due to inplane bending and internal pressure. Theory of cylindrical shells is used as a tool of analysis. Results show maximum stress at the elbow increased up to more than 400 percent of the stress predicted by elementary beam theory.

The Strength in Anterior Bending of Lumbar Intervertebral Discs
Spine, 1994This was a motion segment experiment. To determine the strength in bending of lumbar intervertebral discs.Eighteen "motion segments" consisting of two vertebrae and the intervening disc and ligaments were loaded to simulate forward bending movements in life.

The Strength Analysis of Wooden Bends
Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 1986An analytical method is presented for calculating the strengths of bends made of solid wood. The analysis is based on a finite element method of solution for the stress field, and on appropriate failure criteria adopted from the theory of composite materials.

Determination of tensile strength by the measured rock bending strength
Journal of Mining Science, 2011The paper discusses the data of four-point bending strength for various rock types. Different nonlocal strength criteria are applied to the tensile strength assessments based on measuring the bending strength. The tensile strength calculated using a bar bending model under plastic deformation turns out to be the closest in value to the experimental ...
