Bent functions have maximal minimum distance to the set of affine functions. In other words, they achieve the maximal minimum distance to all the coordinate functions of affine monomials. In this paper we introduce a new class of bent functions which we call hyper-bent functions.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Design and development of unstuck tourniquet
Background: Existing tourniquets often get stuck, so innovation is needed to develop unstuck tourniquets. Technic: The result of the development of the tourniquet is only to modify the location of the locking system.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Cryo-EM structures of full-length integrin αIIbβ3 in native lipids
Platelet integrin αIIbβ3 is maintained in a bent inactive state (low affinity to physiologic ligand), but can rapidly switch to a ligand-competent (high-affinity) state in response to intracellular signals (“inside-out” activation).

A construction of bent functions from plateaued functions [PDF]
In this presentation, a technique for constructing bent functions from plateaued functions is introduced and analysed. This generalizes earlier techniques for constructing bent from near-bent functions. Using this construction, we obtain a big variety of

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

On Binary Quadratic Symmetric Bent and Semi-Bent Functions
We give a new simple construction for known binary quadratic symmetric bent and almost bent functions. In particular, for even number of variables, they are self-dual and anti-self-dual quadratic bent functions, respectively, which are not of the Maiorana-McFarland type, but affine equivalent to it.
