Benthic Habitat Mapping from Seabed Images using Ensemble of Color, Texture, and Edge Features [PDF]
In this paper we present a novel approach to produce benthic habitat maps from sea floor images in Derwent estuary. We have developed a step–by–step segmentation method to separate sea–grass, sand, and rock from the sea floor image. The

Holocene sea‐level and environmental changes on the Isle of Mull, Scotland
ABSTRACT Sea‐level and coastal changes are reconstructed on the Isle of Mull, western Scotland, from 10 988 to 10 507 cal BP to the present. This research has produced the first SLIP for the Isle of Mull. A multiproxy approach including pollen, spore, foraminifera and diatom analyses reveals palaeoenvironmental changes from two coastal sites.

Confirmation of hard-substrate predictions in the abyssal Vema Fracture Zone
Hydroacoustic mapping has recently challenged the long-held view of a uniform abyssal seafloor by predicting substantial habitat heterogeneity in this environment.

The IceShark, an effective method for sampling plankton under sea ice
Abstract Seasonal sea ice plays a crucial role in shaping coastal ecosystem dynamics throughout the circumpolar region. Of particular interest to oceanographers is the ice‐ocean interface which functions as a multidimensional habitat, supporting both sympagic algae and pelagic phytoplankton in the under‐ice surface waters.

Abstract Investigations of hydrostatic pressure effects on microbial enzymatic processing are challenging but critical for understanding element cycling in the world's oceans. In this study, we developed and tested a stainless‐steel pressure cell capable of withstanding up to 110 MPa of hydrostatic pressure (equivalent to ~ 11,000 m depth), featuring ...
