Benthic Macroinvertebrate Susceptibility to Trout Farm Effluents [PDF]
The direct effects of a Virginia trout farm on benthic macroinvertebrates were examined using multiple approaches. Static laboratory tests with the amphipod, Hyallela azteca, were conducted with exposures to water taken from a spring and from effluent both above and below a sedimentation basin.

Efficient sampling methodologies for lake littoral invertebrates in compliance with the European Water Framework Directive [PDF]
Lake shores are characterised by a high natural variability, which is increasingly threatened by a multitude of anthropogenic disturbances including morphological alterations to the littoral zone. The European Water Framework Directive (EU WFD) calls for

Biomonitoring of lake sediments using benthic macroinvertebrates [PDF]
The Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) is an innovative piece of legislation aimed at protecting the quality of all continental and coastal waters in Europe through an ecological evaluation of the ecosystems. Since it is widely acknowledged that the greater the ecological realism the greater the difficulty of its definition, we describe the ...

Low flow controls on benthic and hyporheic macroinvertebrate assemblages during supra-seasonal drought [PDF]
Despite the widely accepted importance of the hyporheic zone as a habitat for stream macroinvertebrates during floods, few data exist regarding community composition and distribution during periods of low flow or drought in perennial streamsi ...

Relationship between salt use in fish farms and drift of macroinvertebrates in a freshwater stream
In Chile, salt (NaCl) use per salmon fish farm ranges between 20-30 t yr-1 and is used to prevent and control fungal infections. An increase in salinity in freshwater can have adverse effects on freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem functions and ...
